I'm Trying Not to be Jealous!

Where was I the day this showed up on craigslist?!  My sweet client & friend Liz found this treasure...while I was out of town or I might have beat her to it!  Stuff like this doesn't come along very often.
Some people would DIE if they saw this beauty painted but I'm with Liz.  I like to make stuff (even antiques) my own.  It still has a great story to tell but what's wrong with adding your own touch to an old piece of furniture?

Maybe she'll forget to come pick it up.  (Fingers crossed)

Antique Sewing Table

This was a custom refinish for a sweet lady that is a quilter and wanted to make this table usable for quilting.  As you can see, the finish is chipping off...and not in a good way.  Especially if you're making quilts!

Isn't the wood amazing on the front of this piece.  I stained it, instead of painting it to showcase this fun little detail.  Now it's functional and fun to look at!

Antique Sewing Table

This little antique sewing table got a little sprucing up along with the family table.  It's so fun to think about where this table has been, who has sewn on it, what they made, where they lived, etc.  It had some little knicks I could just see a little boy scratching into it with his new pocketknife.  And now the story will continue!

Some people might call this a shame, but I say if refinishing an antique will make it more enjoyable, then do it!  It's your home and you should love the things surrounding you! And, it will just add to the story of this fun piece of history!

Antique trunk aged to perfection!

Remember this?  I blogged about it here a few weeks ago and was so excited to have found it.  I just thought it was a little TOO aged for my liking.  At one time it must have been all green, and not a pretty green either.  My husband thought it looked like something pulled up from the bottom of the ocean, which is cool, but not something you would want in your house, right?
So, I broke out the rust-oleum, and then applied dark walnut stain over the top.  It kept the rusty look, but made the color a little more consistent.

The Mod Podge in the "after" pic is still a little white because I was too excited about taking pics to wait for it to dry. I used a table cloth (bought on clearance) for the liner.  It was perfect because it's really thick. I love how it turned out! Now to decide where to put it.    :)
And don't forget how the inside looked before.  Yikes!  Not a great and cozy place to store blankets.

Antique (or old anyway!) dresser

As usual, this project was well on it's way before I remembered to take a before pic.  This white version is after quite a bit of sanding and patching, believe it or not.  It was HAMMERED!  I thought I'd try a soft grey, but then my mom decided she wanted it, and requested this brown finish (one of my favorites). I thought it might be a little dramatic for this dainty piece but it turned out beautiful. It looks so grown up now!
