Plank Wood Bed

I'm always a sucker for planks of wood.  Not sure what it is...but I love it! So of course I sanded the edges to highlight the individual planks.
And what is this random door all about?  Maybe it's to help you tuck in the sheets. LOL

How to Make Hardware Look "Rusty"

I've refinished a few projects that needed some good rusty hardware for the final touch.  After scouring the internet on how to do this, I gave up and came up with my own version.  It's much easier than anything I could find out there.

So, here's what I started with.  I had painted them previously, but didn't like how they turned out.
First I sprayed them with Rustoleum Multicolor Textured paint.
I let them dry for about 15 minutes.  I didn't want the paint to be completely set because I like to mess up the texture a little.
Normally I use black, red, and orange paint but I was out of orange so I improvised.
Next,  dab some color onto your project in random spots.
I wear gloves and just dab at the hardware with my fingers until all the colors are blended. I usually add a little more black as I'm going. There seriously isn't a science to it.  Just go to town blending.

Not the best picture, but here it is on a thrift store shelf I refinished.  It's a wedding gift that has a personal touch, but didn't break the bank!

End Table

No, I'm not out of every color but black.  For some reason all the stuff I have just looks like it should be black.  Doesn't this table look like it should be black?  Any other color just wouldn't do it justice!
 Love those curves!

This cutie is SOLD.
Pretty cute before...just a little banged up.

Black Dresser & Nightstand

Did I mention I've converted from spray paint to a sprayer?  I'm now using lacquer paint and finish which is what cabinet shops and furniture companies use.  The end result is this silky smooth finish that just gorgeous!  I've never had much success with acrylic paint (water based).  It just doesn't stick to the furniture!  It ends up peeling and chipping.  So I am IN LOVE with the new sprayer and having so much fun!  And, my pieces are now even more durable!!!

Dumpster Headboard to Hanging Shelf

Here we have a crappy headboard, pulled from the dumpster.  Not a mystery how it ended up there, right? So my brilliant client found it and thought it would make a cool GIGANTIC shelf for an office.

Here it is with the bottom portion cut off.

I'm always in such a hurry that I forget to take pictures along the way.  I added bead board to the top, bottom, and sides.  I also found some trim I used to make false drawers, and added a strip of wood along the bottom for hooks. I wish the pictures captured the size of it.  It looks awesome!
Here my cute son & husband are holding it for me.  As soon as it's hung in it's new office, I will share the pictures.  I bet the person who threw this in the dumpster never dreamed it had such a promising future!

Antique Sewing Table

This was a custom refinish for a sweet lady that is a quilter and wanted to make this table usable for quilting.  As you can see, the finish is chipping off...and not in a good way.  Especially if you're making quilts!

Isn't the wood amazing on the front of this piece.  I stained it, instead of painting it to showcase this fun little detail.  Now it's functional and fun to look at!

Wall Mirror

Refinished to match the dinette set.

This mirror was in perfect shape before, the finish was just a little dated.  I'm kind of hoping it doesn't sell because it would look really cute in my bedroom.

Ugly to Unforgettable Black Table

This set was nothing but ugly before the transformation.

And now it's so unique and would be a focal point in any room!

Love the detail on the chairs!

Without the leaf, it's a cute little round dinette!

Antique Sewing Table

This little antique sewing table got a little sprucing up along with the family table.  It's so fun to think about where this table has been, who has sewn on it, what they made, where they lived, etc.  It had some little knicks I could just see a little boy scratching into it with his new pocketknife.  And now the story will continue!

Some people might call this a shame, but I say if refinishing an antique will make it more enjoyable, then do it!  It's your home and you should love the things surrounding you! And, it will just add to the story of this fun piece of history!

Furniture With a Story

I love furniture with a story.  This table set belongs to a lady whose husband is currently serving in Iraq.  This was his family table as a boy, and now they enjoy it in their home.  It's hard when the furniture has special meaning, but doesn't really compliment your home anymore.  So she decided to have it refinished as a suprise for him!  Still the same table & chairs, but with an updated look!

Before...

 And now...

Now it's ready to be enjoyed for many years to come! (I also love happy endings)
